Sahlgrenska Life – careful considerations before the next decision step
The faculty is currently evaluating the compiled documentation from the previous phase, that describes the buildings’ design and functions, together with the lease proposal that was submitted in December.
Sahlgrenska Academy’s participation in the Sahlgrenska Life project has for several years been characterized by a desire to develop the faculty’s premises for education, research and collaboration to meet the needs of the future. In recent years, many employees have invested a lot of time designing the intended premises together with the architects. Both to cater for the needs of the activities that will be conducted there upon moving in and with built-in flexibility for changing needs. This collaboration within the Sahlgrenska Life-project has resulted in premises fit for purpose with good solutions.
The project was started at a time when no one could predict the past year’s development in our world, with war, inflation, high interest rates and price increases. These uncertainty factors therefore need to be weighed into the evaluation. Careful analyzes are now being made of the local cost forecast and how it would affect the faculty’s finances as a whole over time.
According to the current schedule, the issue of lease agreements will be taken up for decision by May this year at the latest.

Gothenburg church graces the cover of the journal Gut
The Oscar Fredrik church in Gothenburg adorns the cover of the respected scientific journal “Gut” in February. The reason is an article by among others Kassem Makki at the Wallenberg laboratory that has just been published. The article is about how dietary fibers affect the intestinal bacteria’s ability to produce so-called bile acids and how this in turn affects body weight and metabolism. You can now choose to protect your account with multi-factor authentication
In the spring of 2023, the university will introduce the option to switch on multi-factor authentication on your GU-account. This method for logging into a user account uses two steps to verify that it is the right person logging in. When you activate multi-factor authentication on the account, you need to verify your login to certain services within Microsoft 365 when you connect from an external network, for example when working remotely. This applies, among other things, when you log in to the email or to storage areas within the productivity platform. Read further on the Staff Portal.
The university’s measures have had an effect on electricity consumption
As a government authority, the University of Gothenburg has received a government mission to take energy-saving measures. Employees have been asked to save electricity, and the university’s campus managers have, in dialogue with deans and heads, discussed what measures are possible to take, for example led lighting or no lighting before Christmas and removed electric radiators. Another example is the optimization of the ventilation in Akademiska Hus’ premises, which reduced electricity consumption by 25,000 kWh a month, equivalent to the consumption of a normal-sized villa for a year.
