Increasing emphasis is being placed on the ability to communicate research to the outside world – but it is not always so easy. The Department of Journalism, Media and Communication (JMG) offers a recurring course in research communication, which is open to doctoral students from all over the university. The course has previously been given in both Swedish and English. The course is usually very popular, and planning is already underway for when and in what form the course will be given next time. You who are a doctoral student at the University of Gothenburg can register your prior interest via e-mail to isabella.zander@jmg.gu.se

External review of the faculty’s education: the pharmacist program’s action plan established
Last year, the pharmacy program underwent external review, in accordance with Sahlgrenska Academy’s rolling schedule. The action plan developed by the Education Committee for Pharmacy as a result of this has now been approved by both the Head of Institute and the Education Council. The implementation of the activities that have been decided now continues. “The focus is largely on increasing our examiners‘ and teachers’ knowledge and understanding other courses in the program,” says program manager Patrik Aronsson.
The activities include arranging seminars on goal-based assessment, changing forms of examination and reviewing learning objectives. According to the routines, the action plan will now be followed up by the faculty until all processes have been completed.
The University Board supports Sahlgrenska Life
At its meeting on October 19, the board of the University of Gothenburg supported the project Sahlgrenska Life to go ahead, but points out the importance of considering the consequences for the economy. The decision was based on the report Life Science at the University of Gothenburg and in the Region Västra Götaland, made by Professor Harriet Wallberg, former Vice-Chancellor of Karolinska Institutet, and carried out on behalf of Vice-Chancellor Eva Wiberg. The report, which was presented on September 5, states that the University of Gothenburg, together with the Region Västra Götaland, the University Hospital and the business community, have good opportunities to develop operations in life science.
