The Swedish Research Council’s calls for 2021 are now published on the Swedish Research Council’s website

The Swedish Research Council has now published the 35 upcoming calls for 2021. There are some news, such as the call for cross-sectoral graduate schools in development research and the call for grants for investment in existing research infrastructure. The Swedish Research Council has also made changes to certain calls. Read more here about the new calls and what changes will be implemented in recurring calls for the coming year.
Please note that all details about the conditions in the announcements are not yet clear. Complete instructions in the form of call texts are published when the respective call opens.

The Forssberg Prize 2020 to Magnus Hakeberg

Professor Magnus Hakeberg at the Department of Dental Psychology and Public Health receives the Forssberg Prize 2020, according to an article in Tandläkartidningen. He receives the award for his research on how dental phobia affects patients’ oral health and for having developed treatment models that have been important for dental-fearing patients. Magnus Hakeberg has also done research in community dentistry, when it was mainly about unequal oral health, health services in relation to socio-economic status and comparisons between the payment models healthy dentistry and dental dentistry. In addition to honor, The Forssberg Prize means a prize sum of SEK 20,000. Due to the corona pandemic, this year’s presentation of the award will take place digitally in connection with the inauguration of this year’s odontological national meeting.

VR’s subject council for medicine and health is looking for members of evaluation groups for 2021 – nominate others or yourself

The Swedish Research Council’s subject council for medicine and health now welcomes proposals for members of the evaluation groups in 2021. Read the instructions and submit your proposal no later than 30 January. The nominees must be established researchers in their field of research – professors or associate professors – preferably with previous experience of review work. It is possible to nominate researchers both within and outside Sweden, and you are welcome to nominate yourself. The term of office is one year, which can be extended to a maximum of six years.
Nominate by emailing nominateMH@vr.se. The e-mail must contain information about the name, university, area of competence and suggestions on which evaluation group the member should be part of. Here you can see instructions and the 2021 evaluation groups. It is possible to nominate several candidates.

 

Mac users: Do not upgrade to Apple’s new operating system

10 November, 2020

Apple recently launched a new operating system, macOS 11 Big Sur. Employees who have a Mac are advised not to upgrade to the new operating system at this time, as this may make email recovery more difficult. Due to the ongoing e-mail problems, the IT unit has not had time to verify that the new system works in the university’s computer environment. GU Driftinfo will return with more information about when it may be appropriate to make the upgrade.

Important to be reachable by phone – redirect your landline

When many are working from home, it is important to be able to be reached by phone. You can forward or refer your work telephone via the Staff portal or by contacting the switchboard (031–78600 00 or email vaxeln@gu.se). If you log in to the Staff portal, select Phone in the drop-down menu under your name. You will then come to CMG Web, the Activities tab and can select New activity. There you can make different choices in the Activity menu.

New book on medical informatics – digital book release 17 November

Martin Rydmark, professor emeritus of medical informatics and computer-assisted learning at Sahlgrenska Academy, is together with Göran Petersson and Anders Thurin editor-in-chief of the new book Medicinsk informatik, which is now published by Liber. At a digital book release, held in Swedish on November 17 at 15: 00-15: 45, they will present the book and describe how it can be used as course literature and reference book. The content of the book covers the course objectives that are found in basic and advanced education for eHealth, medical and health informatics, respectively, by explaining the breadth and depth of digitalisation in healthcare for the individual, various professions, organizations and for society.

The Science Festival 2021 now accepts program proposals – no later than December 10

Next year, the Science Festival celebrates 25 years, and is planned to be given as a hybrid between a digital and physical festival. The program aimed at the general public will be given on April 15-18 and the school program on April 12-16. The Science Festival is currently accepting program proposals, with a deadline of December 10. Guest performance at Foodtrucken Tikka Roti: street food from Guatemala and Honduras

Week 45 (2-6 November) the food truck Tikka Roti, in addition to its usual range of Indian and Pakistani dishes, also serves street food from Guatemala, and week 46 (9-13 November) there will be street food from Honduras on the menue. The food truck is open weekdays 11:00-13:30, and is parked in the parking lot outside Academicum.

 

 

Johan Bengtsson-Palme and Anders Palmquist both received VR grants in technology and science

2 November, 2020

Johan Bengtsson-Palme, research assistant at the Department of Infectious Diseases, receives SEK 3.3 million in establishment grant from the Swedish Research Council’s call in technology and science. The project will investigate how low concentrations of antibiotics interfere with important interactions between bacteria in the human microbiome. In the same call, Anders Palmquist, associate professor of biomaterials science, receives SEK 3.4 million in project funding for a project on the importance of implant surfaces at the micro and nano level, for the healing of implants in people with type 2 diabetes.

Entry doors to be locked earlier – GU card required for access

2 November, 2020

Starting October 30, the entry doors of Medicinarelängan and premises at Hälsovetarbacken are locked already at 3 pm. GU card is required between 7am and 7.30 am as well as between 3 pm and 4.30 pm. Between 5.30 pm and 7.00 am, GU card and PIN code is needed. At times other than those, doors are unlocked.
