Do you want to become a professional development leader (PU leader) in the medical program with a focus on an ethical approach? You must be a licensed doctor and employed within the University of Gothenburg or the Västra Götaland region. The last day to apply is December 1st, 2021, with access to the position on March 1st, 2022.
In addition to medical expertise, medical students also need to learn other abilities, such as meeting patients, making difficult decisions, dealing with uncertainty and being able to collaborate in healthcare. This professional development has been run for nine years by Sahlgrenska Academy’s five PU leaders, each responsible for their own field and who together form an advisory PU group.

Sale start of next year’s parking permit on November 1st
From November 1st, you can obtain a permit to park your car on Medicinareberget. Starting now, a new administrative fee of SEK 100 has been introduced for both employees and students. One parking permit per person applies. You can buy your parking permit in Servicecenter Academicum, Medicinaregatan 3. Here you can see its opening hours.
This autumn’s call for ALF positions for doctors, and try-out research has opened
The call for several levels of ALF positions has now opened, open for application by licensed doctors. Try-out research is also announced for doctors interested in research and other health professions who do not have previous research experience. This year there is also a two-year strategic investment in ALF positions in register research for licensed doctors with a doctorate in medicine. The application period for all calls opens on Wednesday 13 October 2021 and closes on Wednesday 8 December at 23.59. The application is made electronically in Researchweb.

The Biomedical Library recommends a lecture series in evolutionary biology
Introduction to Evolutionary Biology, is a lecture series in the resource Henry Stewart Talks, Biomedical and Life Sciences Collection, which the library provides via www.ub.gu.se for all GU-affiliated students and employees. The lecture series provides an overall understanding of evolutionary biology and uses empirical examples and case studies in cutting-edge research to illustrate scientific theories and models. The lectures are suitable for both studies at intermediate / advanced basic level, as well as advanced level. A lecture in the series is: “Biogeography: explaining the geographical distribution of organisms” by Alexandre Antonelli, professor of biodiversity at the University of Gothenburg and the University of Oxford, and head of research at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in the UK.
The lectures in Henry Stewart Talks can be used in teaching and embedded on locked course pages in Canvas. Are you interested in learning more about Horizon Europe’s Health Cluster?
The European Union’s Ninth Framework Program for Research and Innovation, Horizon Europe 2021-2027, has recently been launched. One of the programs within Horizon Europe is the Health Cluster, which through different announcements aims to contribute to health promotion measures, disease management, access to innovative, sustainable and high-quality healthcare and to digital health. Several activities are now underway, in order to spread information about the program and upcoming announcements:
- October 26: Online workshop “How to write a competitive Horizon Europe proposal”, with expert Monica Schofield from Tutech Innovation. The aim is to provide guidance for those that consider writing a proposals, with a particular focus on the section “Impact”. Suitable for both beginners and those who have experience of the EU’s previous framework program, Horizon 2020. For more information and for registration, see Akademiliv LÄNK
- October 28: EU Commission’s “Cluster 1: Health Information Day” which aims to inform about the program’s announcements for 2022. No registration required, but good to follow program updates.
- October 29: Information Day is followed by an online “Brokerage event”, where potential applicants and others with an interest in applying within the Health Cluster are given the opportunity to ask questions, as well as to make contacts with potential partners. Registration is required.
Missions
Horizon Europe 2021–2027 has also launched a new concept, “Missions”. One of these is “Cancer Missions”, which i.a. is based on a cancer plan for Europe, with the aim of preventing cancer, enabling early diagnosis, reducing suffering and improving the quality of life of cancer patients.

Inger Gjertsson is now a professor of internal medicine and rheumatology
Akademiliv congratulates Inger Gjertsson on her professorship in internal medicine and rheumatology, which she combines with her position as chief physician at SU. Her research focuses primarily on the disease rheumatoid arthritis. She studies how B cells and the autoantibodies they produce affect the inflamed joint. Inger Gjertsson is also investigating whether these factors can be used to predict the severity of the disease and give an indication of the most appropriate treatment. Inger Gjertsson is also the course coordinator for the degree project at the medcial program and the semester coordinator for semester 10 of the new medical program.
Annika Gustavsson won the book “Hela Livet”
Fifteen employees took part in the raffle of Anders Rosengren’s new book ”Hela livet: en läkares erfarenheter om hälsa, forskning och vardagens utmaningar” (‘The whole life: a doctor’s experiences of health, research and everyday challenges’), and the draw presented Annika Gustavsson, financial assistant at the faculty office, as the winner of the book. Congratulations Annika – the book comes with the mail!
An Academic Quarter (Akademisk kvart) on healthcare architecture – film in Swedish
Helle Wijk, professor at the Institute of Health and Care Sciences, participates together with Göran Lindahl, professor of healthcare architecture at Chalmers, in the latest episode of the film series Akademisk kvart (“Academic Quarter”). Swedish Broadcasting Corporation podcast “Fråga Agnes” back with a new season
“Fråga Agnes”, the podcast where Agnes Wold answers listeners’ questions based on her medical skills, is back with a new season. In the first episode (Swedish only), she explains why automatic hand dryers are reprehensible, and why you should not put paper on the toilet. The host is Christer Lundberg. Agnes Wold is Professor of Clinical Bacteriology at the University of Gothenburg.
New digital course (so far only in Swedish) – a manual for information-driven care
A new digital course is now available, exploring how new technology and demographic developments change the rules of health care, what opportunities and difficulties it causes, why information-driven care is the best option to meet this development and how best applied. The course is only available in Swedish, and based on the innovation program “En handbok för informationsdriven vård“. The program aims to change information-driven, AI-ready, personalized care, and takes place in collaboration between a large number of players throughout Sweden. The course is completely free and takes a total of just over the hour. Click here to take the course.
