Bioinformatics Core Facility offers a wide range of statistical and bioinformatics services with the task of increasing the understanding of bioinformatics and statistical analysis in the academic community. You can get an hour-long introductory meeting free of charge. During this meeting, you will receive feedback on your project plan and a discussion on how Bioinformatics Core Facility can support you. Every other Thursday at 10: 00-11: 00, Bioinformatics Core Facility also arranges an open consultation event via Zoom (upcoming opportunities are October 14, October 28, November 11 and November 25).
Many were vaccinated in Vasaparken
190 people came to the university’s main building in Vasaparken on Thursday morning to be vaccinated against covid-19, for the first or second shot. One of all those who chose to be vaccinated was Louise Jenninger, a biomedical analyst at the Department of Medical Chemistry and Cell Biology, who received two doses. She received her injection from the assistant doctor Darian from VaccinDirekt.
“It was very smooth and flexible. Good that I was able to take the shot during working hours and good that it was drop-in”, says Louise Jenninger.

The author Anders Rosengren is a professor of molecular medicine at the University of Gothenburg, affiliated with the Wallenberg Center for Molecular and Translational Medicine. He was recently awarded the Minor Fernström Prize for his broad diabetes research.
Forte introduces changes for its annual call
From 2022, Forte will make several changes to its calls: Project grants will be applied for in one step, instead of the previous two. The complete application must be submitted by February 3rd. As junior researchers do very well in the competition for project grants, the Forte grant form junior researcher grant will be discontinued. A new call for postdocs will be made cohesivly and annualy. Three forms of grant will be announced: national postdoc, incoming postdoc and outgoing postdoc. The deadline for all postdoc calls is February 24th. On October 21st, Forte will hold an information meeting about the new announcements.

The fall call for ALF positions opens soon
In October, several levels of ALF positions will be announced that licensed doctors can apply for. Doctors interested in research and other health professions without previous research experience can then also apply for try-out research. The application period opens 13 October 2021 and closes on Wednesday 8 December at 23.59. The application is made electronically in Researchweb.

Pauli Kortteinen new deputy vice-chancellor, responsible for issues regarding education
Vice-chancellor Eva Wiberg has appointed Pauli Kortteinen new deputy vice-chancellor, responsible for issues regarding education. The assignment commences on October 1st, 2021. Pauli Kortteinen is senior lecturer in linguistics and is currently head of the Department of Philosophy, Linguistics and Theory of Science. Pauli Kortteinen has previously been vice dean of the Faculty of Humanities for education at undergraduate and advanced level. He has extensive experience of teaching mainly in syntax, morphology, semantics, phonetics and language typology, but also in translation theory and non-verbal communication. The assignment as deputy vice-chancellor is 80 percent of full-time employment and will run until June 30, 2023.
The science festival’s theme next year: The unknown
Next year’s Science Festival will be open for schools during May 2-13, and for the public May 4-8. The science festival will take place physically, but with digital elements. Next year’s theme is”The Unknown”, about the uncertainty that lies in the nature of science and man’s thirst for knowledge. The festival is popular and interdisciplinary, and welcomes program items in all subjects. Do you have an idea for a program item that can engage the audience and relate to the theme? The science festival is currently investigating the possibilities of also having a news scene during the public program, where research news can be presented. For researchers who want to participate during the festival, the application is now open.
The university libraries open up from 27 September
Now the university libraries are opening up their premises, with extended opening hours and more group rooms and study places available. At the same time, delay fees are also introduced again. More information about the library’s opening hours can be found on each library page.
Election of teacher representatives to the University Board – the Nomination Committee’s proposal of electors to the Electoral Assembly
September 30 and October 13, teachers at Sahlgrenska Academy will elect the electors who will take place in the assembly that appoints three members and two deputies for the new board ofthe University of Gothenburg. The term of office for the new board is 3 years, starting January 1st, 2022. The University Board will consist of 15 members, including the chairman and Vice-Chancellor. The Sahlgrenska Academy’s Nomination Committee proposes these electors: Mary Jo Wick (Biomedicine), Lill Mårtensson-Bopp (Medicine), Mia Ericson (Neuroscience and Physiology), Johan Wessberg (Neuroscience and Physiology), Thomas Kvist (Odontology), Bo Jacobsson (Clinical Sciences) and Per-Arne Svensson (Health and Care Sciences).
Biobank Väst offers DNA extraction for research studies
Biobank Väst offers smooth and cost-effective DNA extraction for customers who saved blood in the biobank for genetic analyzes, primarily for research studies in Region Västra Götaland. Biobank Väst has set up an automated process to make it as safe and standardized as possible while providing high quality of extracted DNA. At present, the biobank performs extraction from whole blood (500 μl, 1.3 ml and 4 ml) and from Buffy Coat. The DNA extraction includes concentration determination with spectrophotometer. Biobank Väst also performs, if requests exist; Aliquot of any blood residues for continued storage, normalization to determined concentration and dispensing to selected format.
