Avonova will take over as a new supplier of corporate health services within the University of Gothenburg (previuously Feelgood and Previa). The change of supplier will take place on December 1st, at which time all new cases will begin at Avonova. Until then, employees must continue to contact Feelgood for occupational health as usual. The personnel unit is now preparing the introduction of the new supplier. Ongoing cases are gradually being transferred from Feelgood to Avonova. The agreement with Feelgood runs until February 28th, 2022 to make this transfer possible. The Staff portal’s pages on occupational health will be updated with new contact information in connection with the change of supplier.
Three researchers in kidney transplantation received funding from the Gelin Foundation
Three of this year’s four recipients of research funding from the Gelin Foundation are active at Sahlgrenska Academy. Together, they receive a total of SEK 500 000 from the foundation. Of the projects, two are about organ transplants and covid-19, and while the third is part of a larger project about donating kidneys from heart-dead donors. John Söfteland receives SEK 200,000 for his project on covid-19 in kidney transplant recipients, and Seema Baid-Agrawal receives SEK 150,000 for her project on Treatment of chronic antibody-mediated rejection in kidney transplant recipients. Doctoral student Deepti Antony also receives SEK 150,000 for a project on necroptosis and ferroptosis in uDCD organs.
Help meet the challenges of osteoarthritis care – better prehabilitation, shorter care queue and fewer reoperations
Together with osteoarthritis patients and employees at Orthopedics, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, VGR, as an Innovation Engine, has carried out a current situation analysis of the challenges of osteoarthritis care. Now they need your input on how these can be solved! Read more here and send in your ideas, tips on ongoing projects, solution proposals or the like no later than 17 November. On November 9 at 16-17 a question and answer session is held.
The goal of VGR as an Innovation Engine is to develop a process for collaboration between healthcare, companies and academia. The purpose is to explain and disseminate healthcare needs to demand the outside world’s suggestions for solutions. Read more here.
Sahlgrenska Academy Science Seminars – from completely digital seminars to hybrid seminars
Starting November 11th, Sahlgrenska Academy Science Seminars will be transformed into hybrid seminars with the opportunity to participate either physically in Lecture Hall Arvid Carlsson at Academicum or digitally via zoom. Sahlgrenska Academy Science Seminars are held every Thursday between 15:00 – 16:00, with a few exceptions in the spring of 2022. All seminars are announced in the calendar in Akademiliv.

Sahlgrenska Life: The Västra Götaland region brought together researchers, experts and decision-makers
Recently, local and regional decision-makers participated in a seminar on the theme Sahlgrenska Life – an investment in future research and care. The purpose was to provide an opportunity for elected representatives to ask questions to the project parties: the Region Västra Götaland, University of Gothenburg, Vitartes and Västfastigheter. Experts, researchers and senior executives from the project presented. The university was represented by Agneta Holmäng, dean of the Sahlgrenska Academy, Peter Naredi, Head Institute of Clinical Sciences, and doctors and researchers Lars Palmqvist, Inger Gjertsson, Lars Ny and Roger Olofsson Bagge.

Personal conversation about dementia with Henrik Zetterberg in the Swedish podcast “Help, do I have Alzheimer’s !?”
Henrik Zetterberg is not only a world-leading researcher in the field of Alzheimer’s, he is also a concerned relative. In the latest episode of the podcast “Help, Do I Have Alzheimer’s !?” (podcast in Swedish) Henrik Zetterberg shares that he himself has Alzheimer’s in the family, and talks about how he and his family relate to it. The podcast is made by journalist Henrik Frenkel, who himself was diagnosed with MCI and probably Alzheimer’s 2019, a diagnosis that was later changed to just cognitive impairment. New center formation with focus on governance of health and medical care systems is established
The Vice-Chancellor has decided to establish a new cross-faculty center formation that brings together research on governance and management within health and medical care systems. The center is called Center for Health Governance (GHC) and will be established from November 1st, 2021. After five years, the goal is for GHC to be self-financed. The host institution becomes the Department of Economics. Appointed director is Eva Wikström, Professor of Health Governance at the Department of Business Administration. From Sahlgrenska Academy, Mikael Svensson, Professor of Applied Health Economics, and Max Petzold, Professor of Biostatistics, both take place in the center’s steering group.
Highest rating for the university’s work with quality assurance
The University of Gothenburg is one of the few higher education institutions that has received the highest rating out of three possible when it comes to quality assurance work of education. The statement from UKÄ, the University Chancellor’s Office, states that our university has a well-developed quality assurance system with a systematic focus on development. The division of responsibilities is clear and the work of stimulating a quality culture is ongoing at all levels in the organization. For the evaluation, the university has submitted a self-evaluation report together with extensive documentation regarding a number of in-depth tracks, study views and statements from UKÄ’s site visits.

Apply for SSMF’s postdoctoral grant – no later than November 15th
The Swedish Society for Medical Research’s three-year grant for postdoctoral education in medical science is now open for application. The purpose of the grant is to give younger researchers the opportunity to achieve merit that leads to the establishment of independent research. The grant can be applied for for full-time or part-time studies, where the part-time grant is intended for people who are clinically active in their regular service. Eligible to apply are persons who have completed a doctoral degree in preclinical or clinical medical discipline or in a subject area close to medicine who defended their dissertation between 15 November 2018 and 31 January 2022. Utlization Peer Community – for researchers interested in innovation, utilization and collaboration
The Grants and Innovation Office invites you to a new context where researchers and doctoral students can share experiences, inspire each other and raise questions – all to promote inclusive utilization work within universities.
This autumn, three lunch seminars will be held where some researchers will briefly share their experiences in innovation, utilization and collaboration. This is followed by an open and convivial discussion. The purpose is partly to create a context for conversations about utilization, exchanges of experience, and partly to promote contacts within the university.
