From January 2024, Akademiska Hus will take over responsibility for the majority of Gothenburg University’s parking lots. During the autumn, rules for parking and routines for handling parking permits for employees and students will be drawn up. Detailed information from Akademiska Hus will be published on the Staff Portal during the autumn. It is clear that there will be no change to the parking fees in 2024.
Time to apply for doctoral courses given spring term 2024
Doctoral courses planned to be given during the spring term 2024 are open for applications. Elective courses can be applied for until October 21st. Deadline for applications to the mandatory courses is December 1st.

Marie Lagerquist is now a professor of molecular endocrinology, especially osteoimmunology
Akademiliv congratulates Marie Lagerquist on the professorship! Her research group studies osteoporosis and how sex hormones and their signaling pathways affect bone mass. The focus is on estrogen receptors. With the help of preclinical studies, the group wants to understand how estrogen affects the skeleton. The goal of the research is to better investigate the mechanisms behind estrogen’s bone-protective effects in order to be able to develop new, better drugs against osteoporosis with fewer side effects. Marie Lagerquist is deputy head of department at the Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition at the Institute of Medicine. She also participates to a lesser extent in teaching within the biomedical analyst program.
Katharina Stibrant Sunnerhagen awarded by American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM)
Akademiliv sends a big CONGRATULATIONS to Katarina Stibrant Sunnerhagen, who is awarded by ACRM, an American non-profit medical association with a mission to improve the lives of disabled people. Katarina Stibrant Sunnerhagen is a professor of rehabilitation medicine, and the award she receives is called the ACRM Stroke ISIG Award for Excellence in Post-Acute Stroke Rehabilitation. In addition to the honor, the award means that she will be invited to lecture at the 100-year jubilee organization ACRM during their convention in Atlanta, Georgia at the end of October.
The Vice-Chancellor comments on the investigation directive on reporting obligations
Vice-Chancellor Malin Broberg has written a comment on the Staff Portal, regarding the investigation directive on reporting obligations. She states that so far there is no bill but an investigative directive. She also writes “Since the University of Gothenburg educates for the professions that may be affected, it is obvious that in such a referral response we base ourselves on research and expert knowledge in relevant areas to highlight different perspectives related to a possible legislative proposal.”

Paula Nordling one of the recipients of Lennmalm’s prize in 2023
Paula Nordling, teacher at the School of Public Health and Community Medicine and ST doctor in social medicine, has been named as one of three recipients of the Lennmalm Prize 2023, which is awarded by the Swedish Medical Association. She is rewarded for her insurance medicine studies with a focus on doctors’ work with sick leave for patients with common mental illness. With a focus on work capacity assessment and collaboration with employers of people on sick leave, Paula has increased knowledge in areas where knowledge has previously been largely lacking. Paula Nordling received her doctorate in 2021. She is assistant course leader for two courses on coordination of sick leave in health care at advanced level, and teaches on the medical program.

Experience the Doctoral Conferment Ceremony on Friday October 20th, 2023
In October 162 new doctors will be conferred on stage in the Congress Hall at the Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre (note – the ceremony is mainly in Swedish, and in part in Latin). In addition, ten honorary doctors and recipients of the university’s most renowned prizes will be recognized.The Academy of Music and Drama will provide the entertainment. As an employee, you are welcome to attend the ceremony in the audience as well as the reception afterwards, but the number of seats are limited and you are required to book your place. Please register here by October 2. You will receive an electronic ticket in your mobile phone, which you need to show at the door when you arrive. It is also possible to print your confirmation that you will receive by mail, and show that at the door.
Eddi Omrcen is now sustainability manager at the university
On 1 January 2023, the unit GU Property changed its name to GU Property and Sustainable Development. At the same time, a section for sustainability was established, which since 1 August has been led by Eddi Omrcen, who is also the university’s sustainability manager. Since January, Eddi Omrcen has been acting head of the section for sustainability. He has previously, among other things, been the university’s sustainability strategist and the environmental manager at the university.
