Akademiliv congratulates Marie Lagerquist on the professorship! Her research group studies osteoporosis and how sex hormones and their signaling pathways affect bone mass. The focus is on estrogen receptors. With the help of preclinical studies, the group wants to understand how estrogen affects the skeleton. The goal of the research is to better investigate the mechanisms behind estrogen’s bone-protective effects in order to be able to develop new, better drugs against osteoporosis with fewer side effects. Marie Lagerquist is deputy head of department at the Department of Internal Medicine and Clinical Nutrition at the Institute of Medicine. She also participates to a lesser extent in teaching within the biomedical analyst program.
