Gustaf Dalén Hall, Chalmers University of Technology, Chalmers Tvärgata 5
Sahlgrenska Academy and Chalmers invite you to a Nobel lecture by Carolyne Bertozzi, Nobel Laureate in chemistry 2022. The lecture will be conducted in English. Registration is required. Welcome!
Carolyn Bertozzi took click chemistry to a new level. In order to map important but elusive biomolecules on the surfaces of cells – glycans – she developed click reactions that function inside living organisms. Her so-called bioorthogonal reactions occur without disturbing the normal chemistry of cells. These reactions are now utilized globally to explore cells and visualize biological processes. With the help of bioorthogonal reactions, researchers have also developed more precise cancer drugs, which are currently being tested in clinical trials.
With click chemistry and bioorthogonal reactions, chemistry has entered the era of functionalism. It is to humanity’s greatest benefit.
