No distribution of the Minor Fernströms Prize this year

11 June, 2020

Eric K. Fernström’s Foundation for the Advancement of Scientific Medical Research has decided, after careful consideration, to cancel this year’s announcement of Eric K. Fernström’s award to younger, especially promising and successful researchers, often called the Minor Fernströms Prize. The reason is the great uncertainty about whether it is possible to have an awards ceremony with associated festivities in November as planned, under the circumstances.
Thus, the nominations submitted for the Lilla Fernströms Prize will not be considered this year, but are invited to be nominated next year instead. The maximum age for applicants will temporarily be extended by one year to 46. Next year’s announcement is planned to come out after the turn of the year.

Clinicians and researchers – time to submit suitable projects for medical students’ thesis work in the new database

8 June, 2020

Sahlgrenska Academy now has a new database for the medical program’s thesis, with updated projects and a structure that provides a better overview. Clinicians and researchers who can offer projects that correspond to one semester’s work, including report writing, are now invited to include these in the database. Since the students who might otherwise have placed their master thesis abroad will be forced to stay at home this year because of the pandemic, there is a beed for more than usual projects in Gothenburg this fall.

Update your personal page on the web – before July 31

8 June, 2020

The institutions are now working intensively to make web pages about research groups, research projects and educations for GU’s new web, to be published on September 2. Information from your current personal page will also be transferred to the new staff directory, which gives everyone with x-account their own and improved personal page. You have until July 31 to update information in your resume, selected publications and make sure that there is a current photo. When the new web is launched on September 2, you will have to make future updates in the new staff directory.

How to update your information:

  1. Log in to the Staff Portal and click on your name in the top right, you will get a drop-down list. Under the Profile & settings menu you will find Edit personal presentation.
  2. Once you get to the page, you need to scroll to the bottom of the page to get to the section where you can change your presentation. There you see the same information that is visible on the person page.
  3. By clicking Edit your text you can add a personal description of what you are working on, you can add links, upload a resume and add a picture. The image should be 220 x 260 pixels to fit the page.
  4. You can also change your contact information under Change contact information in the staff directory under the Profile & settings menu.

On the Staff Portal there are additional instructions and a good guide for how to edit your personal information.

New government decision makes some on-site teaching possible – updated decision for GU to be announced shortly

2 June, 2020

The higher education institutions continue to be responsible for adapting teaching and reducing the spread of infection, even after June 15 when the government announced that universities may re-open for some campus teaching. The University of Gothenburg is preparing for an adapted return to campus, which will probably mean that the teaching in some parts will be carried out digitally also in the fall. The university management and faculties are now investigating how the government’s message affects different education programs, and what may need to be changed in the distance teaching decision made by the Vice-Chancellor on May 11. A supplementary Vice-Chancellor’s decision is expected to be announced before June 6, which will be followed by information on what this means for Sahlgrenska Academy. Read more about the government decision on the Staff Portal.
