Sahlgrenska Life is a project run by Region Västra Götaland with the University of Gothenburg as an important partner. The University of Gothenburg has now announced that it wants to proceed to the system phase for buildings 2 and 3. The Vice-Chancellor has also decided on which activities are proposed to be included in the future buildings. Four institutes – Health and Care Sciences, Odontology, Clinical Sciences and Medicine – and the Biomedical Library have nominated activities that they believe can best be developed in the translational environment, which includes educational premises and faculty premises. Several VR calls have opened – project grants, employment in a clinical environment or in healthcare sciences research, 3R, as well as project grants in viruses and virus-caused illnesses
The Swedish Research Council’s open call for project grants in medicine and health has now opened, with a deadline of 17 March 2021. This year, the call includes special support for the area of Precision Medicine, and you must state in your application if it is relevant to this area. VR also calls for applications for part-time employment as researchers in clinical environment and in healthcare sciences research, and for research project grant for development of methods to replace, reduce and refine animal experiments (3R). Another call that has opened is for project grants in viruses and virus-caused disease conditions, for long-term research in basic virological research and basic disease mechanisms caused by viruses. All announcements have a deadline of March 17, 2021.
No announcement of travel grants for doctoral students at Sahlgrenska Academy
The Sahlgrenska Academy will not make any announcements of travel grants for doctoral students and young researchers in February 2020. This as a result of continued travel restrictions. Of the 120 travel grants granted last year, only 10 have been able to be used. Those who have not been able to use their travel grant have been given an extended disposition throughout 2021. A new call is planned for February 2022.
The institutes are responsible for decisions and financing of any possible extension of postgraduate education due to covid-19
The pandemic has affected all research, and also made it harder for doctoral students to finnish all the planned work before the dissertation. An opportunity to extend the doctoral period has been opened by the Vice-Chancellor and the student union at the University of Gothenburg, but there is no central funding for such extensions. The Sahlgrenska Academy’s faculty board has now decided that it is the institutes that both decides and finances any extension of doctoral student projects, even for those who are part-financed by joint faculty funds. These matters are handled by the head of institute. The universities is about to receive a temporary increase of government grants, where the Vice-Chancellor will decide on distribution to faculties, after which the faculty will decide on the distribution to the institutes.
Prestudy on a new Staff Portal is underway – contribute by answering a questionnaire
An ongoing prestudy examines how the role and function of the Staff Portal can be replaced by other platforms than the existing InfoGlue platform. The prestudy will propose an easy-to-use and efficient internal web for the university’s employees. At the end of June 2021, the feasibility study will, according to schedule, deliver proposals for a platform solution and proposals for implementation projects. The hope is that the proposals will be approved, that planning can begin this autumn and that the implementation project can start next year in 2022.

New decision about number of students in examination hall at Viktoriagatan 30
According to the previous decision from 25 June 2020, a total of 192 students writing exams are allowed at one time in the examination halls at Viktoriagatan 30. Due to the increased rate of infection and after discussions with infection control specialists in Region Västra Götaland, a new decision has been made on February 4 2021 to limit the number of students in the examination halls to 50 students per hall.
The information below applies:
- 50 students in Sections 1 and 2 using the Viktoriagatan 30 entrance.
- 50 students in Section 3 using the Karl Gustavsgatan 29 entrance.
- 10 students in Section 4 (for students with adjusted examinations) using the Viktoriagatan 30 entrance.
Maximum 110 students in total are allowed in the examination hall at one time.
The decision is valid until further notice.
EasyPark is the new parking app – for Medicinareberget, area code 71373 applies
As of January 1 this year, payment will be made at GU’s parking areas with the app from EasyPark, which has acquired the company behind SMS Park. Zone numbers and signs are replaced. Enter area code 71373 to be able to indicate that you park with a parking permit on Medicinareberget
For just over a year, one and the same parking permit has been valid in all parking areas at the University of Gothenburg. The parking permit for 2020 has been extended, and is valid until September 1, 2021. The Regional Board for Västra Götaland has decided on continued implementation planning of Sahlgrenska Life
In December, Akademiliv reported that the board for Region Västra Götaland had decided to support the Sahlgrenska Life concept as a whole. On January 26, the regional board took another decision which means that the region will proceed with the implementation planning of houses 2 and 3, and that the board of Sahlgrenska University Hospital and the property committee will be commissioned to supplement and clarify operating costs and evacuation costs for house 1. Ingmar Skoog and Agnes Wold are both nominated for the award Senior of the Year
Two of four nominees for the award Senior of the Year are professors at Sahlgrenska Academy. In the motivation for Ingmar Skoog’s nomination, the editors of the the magazine Senioren state that no one knows as much about the elderly as he does. He is the director of the Center for Aging and Health, AgeCap, which conducts multidisciplinary research for capable ageing. In the nomination of Agnes Wold, she is described as a national corona educator, always providing straight and clear answers. The other two nominees are state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell and journalist Britta Svensson.
Name change and new address for many care units within Sahlgrenska University Hospital
This year, many care units within Sahlgrenska University Hospital will be renamed. The names are simplified to make it clear what type of care the unit conducts and on which hospital site. The implementation takes place in stages starting with Queen Silvia’s Children’s Hospital. New entrance and street for the existing hospital and the extension means that all units that currently have the address Rondvägen 10 will get the address Behandlingsvägen 7.
