Akademistatistik also offers statistics consultation during the summer – email for a suitable time

Akademistatistik is a service that GU and Medisam jointly subsidize to be able to offer researchers at SA and VGR, statistical consulting assistance. The first five hours are free, after that the help costs 590 SEK / hour (see our website for more information: https://www.gu.se/en/medicine/about-us/school-of-public-health-and-community-medicine/akademistatistik-consulting-services-in-statistics-and-health-economics).

In normal cases, the research group must book appointments via our website; but during the summer months (July, July and the first half of August) you do not need to book appointments. You who need help during the summer can send an email directly to us; akademistatistik@gu.se, we will contact you at a suitable time. In the autumn, you will need to book appointments in the usual order.

Tord Berglundh recognized by The European Federation of Periodontology

Tord Berglundh, professor at the Institute of Odontology, has been awarded the Distinguished Scientist Award by the European Federation of Periodontology. He has regularly chaired working groups at the federation’s Perio Workshops. He has also written its guidelines for clinics regarding new classifications for peri-implant health, peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis. The European Federation of Periodontology is a non-profit organization that aims to promote awareness of science related to tooth loss and the importance of good oral health. Its guiding vision is “Periodontal Health for a Better Life.”

Food truck Tikka Roti: guest performance from southern Europe until the summer

The food truck Tikka Roti is open weekdays 11:00-13:30 and is parked in the parking lot outside Academicum. In addition to its usual range of Indian and Pakistani dishes, the food truck adds street food from other parts of the world, which is allowed to make guest appearances two weeks at a time. Until the summer, dishes from southern Europe are offered. Week 18-19 (3-14 May) street food is offered from Greece, week 20-21 (17-28 May) street food is offered from Spain, week 22-23 (31 May-11 June) street food is offered from Portugal and week 23-24 (June 7-18) offers street food from Italy. During the summer, the food truck Tikka Roti will be on site 3-4 days a week.

Apply for funding in the second round for expanded biobanking of covid-19-related samples

Biobank Sweden has been allocated SEK 10 million to finance expanded biobanking within the regions regarding covid tests. It is now time to apply for the second round of funding. In order to receive the funds, a number of criteria must be met. The primary focus is on individual samples, to ensure that already preserved samples are not discarded and to make samples available for research on covid-19. Pod tip – ‘Hudläkarpodden’ by two colleagues at SU’s Dermatology clinic

In the beginning of the year, Hudläkarpodden ( ‘the Dermatologist Podcast’) was launched. The podcast is made in Swedish, and addresses questions about skin, hair and nails. It is run by the two dermatologists Lykke Barck and Marta Laskowski, who is also a doctoral student at Sahlgrenska Academy. So far, four episodes have been published. Group investigates working life after the pandemic on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor

The Vice-Chancellor has appointed a working group within the university which has the task of proposing a number of principled positions regarding the conditions for a flexible working life after the pandemic. The group is led by the Dean of the IT Faculty, Dick Stenmark. Others who are included are the Dean of the Faculty of Science Göran Hilmersson, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts Sanne Kofod Olsen and the chief librarian Morgan Palmqvist. The work is carried out together with the HR unit.
“Of course, many are thinking about what working life will look like in the future. The group’s task will be, as a first step, to find out what framework we have to relate to and see how we can work together in this”, says Eva Wiberg.

Ingmar Skoog appointed expert in report into elderly care

Professor Ingmar Skoog, director of the Center for Aging and Health, AgeCap, is one of the 14 experts who will assist a newly appointed report into an elderly care law and strengthened medical competence in municipalities. The report has been commissioned by the Ministry of Social Affairs and is expected to be completed next summer. Special investigator for the work is Olivia Wigzell, Director General of the National Board of Health and Welfare. The election of members of the Faculty Board is approaching

Less than a month now remains until Sahlgrenska Academy holds its election of members to the faculty board (often also called the academy board). The Nominating Committee is currently working on its proposal for eight board members and two reserves. The proposal will be decided on May 3, after which it will be announced in Akademiliv. Following a referral to the institutes, the electoral roll  will be determined by the Nominating Committee on May 10. The election is conducted electronically between May 17 and May 30, after which the election results will be announced through Akademiliv.

Digital conference on visual impairment is arranged in Gothenburg

Researchers at Faculty of Education and at Sahlgrenska Academy are co-hosts of this year’s edition of the International Mobility Conference. The theme is “Challenges for an inclusive society”, and the international speakers will lecture on the possibility for people with visual impairments to orient and move in society. University of Gothenburg has been chosen as organizer based on its prominent research in the field, and the fact that Nordic countries in a global perspective have come a long way with an inclusive community building. The conference’s interdisciplinary approach is also reflected in the international keynote speakers. Read more in a longer news item from the Faculty of Education (Swedish only).

The working group for the Climate Framework arranges workshops on how the University of Gothenburg will reduce carbon dioxide emissions

In order to achieve the goals of the Climate Framework, proposals have been made to introduce climate change and a carbon dioxide budget. Students and staff at the University of Gothenburg are now invited to participate in digital workshops (May 17th, and May 21st) and comment on the proposals. At the workshop, the work is reported so far and there is an opportunity to discuss the proposals for climate change and carbon dioxide budget. The purpose is to gather views and suggestions for improvement before the proposals go on to decisions.
