VR report: Women must fight harder to get through the academy

21 June, 2021

Women who want to pursue a career in academia still face greater obstacles than men, but the differences have been evened out. The image that women leave the academy to a greater extent is not true, according to a new report from the Swedish Research Council. The report shows, among other things, that women to a greater extent feel that they lack mentors and find it difficult to combine working life and parenthood. Women also find it more difficult to have time to do research and merit. The report also shows that women and men leave the academy to about the same extent, due to precarious working conditions and unclear career paths.
