You who work within the Region Västra Götaland or the Sahlgrenska Academy have the opportunity to get a briefing from administrators at the Ethics Review Authority on how to make an application in the Ethix application system, regarding ethics for human research. Together with experienced researchers and reviewers of ethics applications, they go through what the most common errors and reasons for requests for supplementation are and what you as a researcher should think about. The occasion is a digital seminar, held in Swedish, Tuesday 30 May 13:00-14:30. Supervisors (Swedish speaking) from the medical program are wanted for the autumn interprofessional day on human rights
Significantly more supervisors from the medical program are needed for the autumn interprofessional day on human rights, which will take place on Thursday 21 September at 12:00-16:30. The interprofessional day is given to students in semester 1 or 2 every semester. During the afternoon, the students have group discussions and carry out an assessment exercise in groups of about 25 students from different programs, where each group needs two supervisors, also from different programs. New supervisors are always allowed to supervise together with someone with experience. For doctoral students who need teaching time, this is a good opportunity as you tutor in pairs and thus expand your network! Supervisor training is offered on September 5.

The government changes appointments to university boards – “Threatens free research”
The government is shortening the term of office of the boards of higher education institutions from three years to 17 months, in order to bring in people with security policy expertise, the editorial platform Dagens Arena reports. The reason is to avoid Swedish patents disappearing abroad. SUHF’s chairman Hans Adolfsson speaks out very critically, and believes that it is a restriction of the universities’ self-determination. The University of Gothenburg’s vice-chancellor Eva Wiberg is also strongly critical in her blog: “It is a very strong signal and a serious step towards increased political governance that is sent with this message”.

Håkan Tinnerberg receives 3.5 million from AFA to study exposure to nanomaterials
Håkan Tinnerberg, Associate Professor at the Institute of Medicine, receives SEK 3,479,000 from AFA Försäkring to measure nanoparticles in various workplaces. With new technology, the researchers will investigate how much of such such particles the employees ingest , which was previously not possible. They will also measure the presence of nanoparticles in air and in particular investigate the new nanomaterial graphene. Nanomaterials are common in the manufacturing industry and are found, among other things, in welding fumes, diesel fumes and smoke in emissions from 3D printers. They can cause inflammation and contribute to cardiovascular disease, but risk assessments of such materials need to be improved.
