International researchers launch collaborative platform for research on COVID-19

2 April, 2020

There is now an on-line meeting place for researchers who have data on COVID-19 and researchers who can analyze and answer questions based on the data. Researchers in machine learning, bioinformatics, epidemiology and statistics from universities all over the world support this collaboration tool, called Data Against COVID-19. The idea is that clinicians, virologists and immunologists working to fight the pandemic should upload their data in the collaboration platform and provide information to the researchers behind the platform, and get help analyze data, make predictions and answer other questions based on data. You will find the tool here: https://www.data-against-covid.org/

Short report from today’s Vice Chancellor’s dialogue

1 April, 2020

Today (April 1st), the usual Vice Chancellor’s dialogue took place, where among others the Vice Chancellor, representatives from university management and the Sahlgrenska Academy faculty management participated, this time via zoom. The Vice Chancellor gave her thanks to the Faculty for everyone’s efforts in education and research. The faculty received praise for their research and she also stated that the teaching quality work at Sahlgrenska Academy impresses. It was emphasized both by the Vice Chancellor and by the faculty management that it is important to keep operations running as well as possible under prevailing circumstances, and that solutions may need to be creative and pragmatic. Other current issues related to the operations were also discussed, and several will be raised in continued dialogue.

250,000 can now use Zoom simultaneously

1 April, 2020

This is a very high pressure on Sunet’s network and services since the government made recommendations that teaching should take place at a distance. Something that is especially noticeable on Sunet’s e-meetings service, Zoom. At this point, 250,000 simultaneous users in the Nordic region can meet in Zoom. The previous expansion last week was not enough for the transition to more distance education and meetings. Other educational support services, such as Sunet Play, for example, are used significantly more than otherwise, have had some disruptions but have now gained capacity. The use of the service has gone up 700% compared to before covid-19.

Natrium – the name of the building replaces the project name Naturvetenskap Life

31 March, 2020

The fact that Natrium is the name of the new building for the Faculty of Science at University of Gothenburg has been known since the commencement ceremony in February. The project has now decided to replace the former project name Naturvetenskap Life with the name Natrium. The decision aims to avoid confusion that can occur when two different terms are used in parallel. When the many contractors involved in the project communicate about their involvement in the project, the name Natrium should be used. This applies to all communications about Natrium, regardless of who is the sender of the message.
