The Region Västra Götaland is currently looking for a new operations manager for Gothia Forum, after the current operations manager Alessio Degl’innocenti. Gothia Forum is a research infrastructure within the Region Västra Götaland (VGR) with the task of strengthening clinical research in VGR. The operations manager for Gothia Forum reports to the R & D & I director at Sahlgrenska University Hospital and is part of the R & D & I’s organization’s management and function group. The management includes a business manager responsibility for about 60 employees. Apply no later than 6 February 6, 2022.

Andrei Chagin is a new professor of molecular medicine
Akademiliv congratulates Andrei Chagin on his professorship! His research group studies the mechanisms behind skeletal development, growth and maintenance. The group is particularly interested in skeletal stem cells and stem cell niches in skeletal tissues, and has recently identified a new stem cell niche in growth plates (anatomical structure at the end of long bones that allows growth in children and adolescents, ed.) The research is relevant to several diseases, especially child growth, osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. The aim of the research is to better understand the basic mechanisms underlying skeletal tissue maintenance and use this knowledge to develop novel therapies and treatment strategies.
Sahlgrenska Life: the detail plan is now legally binding
The detail plan for healthcare and research near Per Dubbsgatan in the Änggården district in Gothenburg is now legally binding. The detail plan is a prerequisite for the implementation of Sahlgrenska Life, and is of great importance not only for the city but also for development of life science on regional as well as national level. In practical terms, the detailed plan also allows the removal of older buildings in favour of new. In addition, the traffic situation on Per Dubbsgatan for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport, can improve. The City of Gothenburg also wants to develop the qualities of the area and make it more attractive.
The university is postponing the ceremony for the 2020 Conferment of Doctoral Degrees, and Zealous and Devoted Service
Academic Ceremonies postpones two ceremonies that were planned to be held in January. The Conferment of Doctoral Degrees 2020, which was planned to be carried out on March 11 at the Swedish Exhibition Center, will be pushed to Friday May 6, 2022. For Sahlgrenska Academy, the announcement means that the planned celebration lecture with honorary doctor Bo Håkansson will also be postponed. The solemn awarding of the Zealous and Devoted Service award (‘Nit och redlighet’) will also be postponed from January 26, to April 7 2022, when a traditional ceremony hopefully will be given in the university’s main building in Vasaparken.
How to get involved in the EU mission to cure cancer
EU missions are a novelty to the Horizon Europe research and innovation program for the years 2021 – 2027. They aim to bring concrete solutions to great societal challenges. Preventing and curing cancer is one of the five missions supported by the Horizon Europe program. Marie Studahl is a new professor of infectious diseases
Akademiliv congratulates Marie Studahl on her professorship in infectious diseases! Her research group studies viral infections in the central nervous system from a clinical perspective with long follow-up. The research evaluates new molecular biological methods and identifies biomarkers for severe disease. Mapping of neurological and cognitive residual conditions is included, as well as economic consequences of viral CNS infections. The focus is on tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) and various herpes virus infections in the brain. The goal is to prevent viral infections in the brain, understand why some people get serious illness and reduce the damage of infection. Marie Studahl participates in course development and teaches in the medical program, and is active in the new Nordic master’s program in microbiology, infection control and care hygiene.
Research on better care for the elderly and care is awarded to Forte funding
Forte donates SEK 6 million to the new research project Senior alert – a means for better care in collaboration. In a new interdisciplinary collaborative project, the national quality register for the elderly, Senior alert, will be reviewed and analyzed. The hope is that this can lead to improvements for older and fragile people regardless of which municipality they live in. The project will run until 2025. From the University of Gothenburg, Professor Helle Wijk and Associate Professor Annette Erichsen Andersson participate. Other partners are Kristianstad University, Linköping University, Jönköping County Region and Folktandvården in Stockholm.

Akademiliv’s website is continuously updated. Every week (Wednesdays) a newsletter is emailed with links to Akademiliv on the web. If necessary, extra newsletters can also be issued. In 2022, the newsletter skips three Wednesdays: February 16th (sports holiday), April 13th (Easter holiday) and November 2nd (autumn holiday). The newsletter takes a summer break between June 23rd and August 24th. The last newsletter before the Christmas holiday 2022 will reach you on Wednesday, December 21st.

Sahlgrenska University Hospital is now announcing a position as management strategic support in research, development, education and innovation (R & D & I). You who are applying must have a university degree, and it is an advantage to have a PhD. Your main focus is management strategic R & D & I and you will work closely and mainly for the R & D & I director and the director’s two project managers for research. Your immediate supervisor will be the R & D & I director. The tasks consist of both operational and strategic tasks. The last day to apply is January 30.
