Akademiliv congratulates Marie Studahl on her professorship in infectious diseases! Her research group studies viral infections in the central nervous system from a clinical perspective with long follow-up. The research evaluates new molecular biological methods and identifies biomarkers for severe disease. Mapping of neurological and cognitive residual conditions is included, as well as economic consequences of viral CNS infections. The focus is on tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) and various herpes virus infections in the brain. The goal is to prevent viral infections in the brain, understand why some people get serious illness and reduce the damage of infection. Marie Studahl participates in course development and teaches in the medical program, and is active in the new Nordic master’s program in microbiology, infection control and care hygiene.
