The Swedish Cancer Society’s extra calls 2023: Clinical Cancer Treamtent Studies

12 December, 2022

In the coming years the Swedish Cancer Society (Cancerfonden) plans to announce larger grants for research: SEK 3-10 million/year, maximum SEK 30 million over 3-5 years. The size of the grants aims to enable cost-intensive projects that are difficult to finance within the framework of ordinary grants.

In 2023 the extra call is for clinical treatment studies in cancer. Eligible to apply are researchers who have previously held hold from the Swedish Cancer Society, as well as those who currently hold ordinary project grants from the Swedish Cancer Society and plan to apply for continuation grants during 2023-2025.

Researchers with existing grants from the Swedish Cancer Society must clearly describe how the requested support of the extra calls relates to and possibly overlaps scientifically and financially with ongoing ordinary projects or with applications for ordinary projects.

In February-March 2023 the Swedish Cancer Society organises a couple of informational webinars aimed at all applicants for the spring application round, with focus on the extra call for clinical treatment studies in cancer.

More information about the extra calls can be found here (in Swedish): Grants for researchers – information clinical studies.

Dates and deadlines for the Swedish Cancer Society’s calls 2023:

  • The spring’s regular application round (project, researcher months and planning group) opens on March 15th and closes on May 2nd at 3:00 p.m.
  • The application round for the new extra investment opens on March 15th and closes on August 25th at 15:00.
  • The application round for positions opens on 24 August and closes on 5th October at 15:00.

Eva M Andersson to study on inequality in exposure to environmental health with grant from Forte

12 December, 2022

Eva M Andersson, researcher at Occupational and Environmental Medicine, receives SEK 3.7 million from Forte for a project on socio-economic inequality in exposure to environmental health risks in Sweden. Environmental exposures are risk factors for many diseases, but the relationship between socioeconomics and environmental exposure (air pollution, traffic noise) has rarely been studied. The study is based on the SCAPIS cohort with roughly 30,000 people from six Swedish cities. The researchers will investigate whether there is inequality in the physical environment, so that, for example, residents in “poor” areas are exposed to higher levels of air pollution and more traffic noise. The goal is to estimate what proportion of the social gradient in health can be attributed to exposure from the surrounding environment.
