FACULTY ELECTION. The Faculty’s Nominating Committee proposes that current Pro-Dean Henrik Hagberg continue in this role until December 31, 2023, which coincides with the end of Dean Agneta Holmäng’s appointment. His focus will continue to be collaboration, primarily with the medical care system as the person responsible for issues related to the national ALF agreement, but also regarding Chalmers.

Henrik Hagberg’s term of office initially had not extended as long as that of Dean Agneta Holmäng’s due to previous pension rules, which have now changed.

He has accepted the nomination to continue as Pro-Dean, primarily so that he can continue to complete work on the Swedish Research Council’s ALF evaluation, which has entered an intensive phase. (ALF [Avtal om Läkarutbildning och Forskning] refers to the agreement concerning cooperation on medical education and research.)

“I am very involved in writing the self-assessments for two of the panels. In collaboration with several other key people, I also help formulate the description of how our ALF region is organized,” says Hagberg.

Focus on collaboration

In his current role as Pro-Dean, he has a clear responsibility for collaboration with several of Sahlgrenska Academy’s most important partners: Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Chalmers University of Technology, and the Faculty of Science. This work includes organizing the recurring fair for degree projects in the intersection of technology and health, the Engineering Health Conference, and several different workshops.

“In the coordination group, we also work on collaboration strategies for communication and research support, and we support focus areas that build bridges between the different parties, such as developing the Centre for Antibiotic Resistance Research, or CARe.”

Based at Östra Hospital

Henrik Hagberg

Henrik Hagberg is an internationally renowned researcher in perinatal brain injury at the Institute of Clinical Sciences. He participates in the productive clinical research environment at Östra Hospital and is strongly committed to strengthening the academic environment there.

“At Sahlgrenska University Hospital’s Östra site, we are getting excellent new research facilities in the new building for women’s and neonatal care. We are also working on creating a shared research hub somewhere on the Östra site, but the work there is currently on hold due to the focus on Sahlgrenska Life.”

Henrik Hagberg received his doctoral degree at what was then the Histological Institute in Gothenburg in 1985, and he has been actively involved in clinical work at Östra Hospital most of his time. Since 2000, he has been a professor of obstetrics and perinatology.
