Marie Kalm receives a three-year grant from the Swedish Childhood Cancer Foundation
GRANT. The Swedish Childhood Cancer Foundation has earmarked special funds for research on tumors of the brain and nervous system. Marie Kalm at the University of Gothenburg has received a major three-year grant for her project to develop methods of minimizing brain damage when children and adolescents undergo radiotherapy.
Young cancer researcher receives Assar Gabrielsson award for ground-breaking work on public health
AWARD. Volvo’s founder took the initiative to start up a foundation that supports young cancer researchers. The foundation is still very active and on Wednesday May 6 it is time to present the annual Assar Gabrielsson Award to someone who has written an excellent thesis on cancer research. The 2015 award-winner is Volkan Sayin, and he receives the award for his ground-breaking discoveries about the risks of over-consumption of anti-oxidants.
Swedish model for PSA testing has little effect on mortality
DOCTORAL THESIS. The spontaneous PSA testing that has been applied in Sweden in recent decades has only had a marginal effect on mortality. An organized screening focused on those who have the most to gain would, however, reduce the risk of dying from prostate cancer by over 40 percent. This is shown by studies at the Sahlgrenska Academy.
Gothenburg researchers receive SEK 8 million from the Swedish Childhood Cancer Foundation
GRANTS. The Swedish Childhood Cancer Foundation awarded eight cancer researchers in Gothenburg grants totaling SEK 8 million this fall. The foundation also awarded grants for travel and symposiums.
