INTERACTION. Research that saves lives – from screening to rehabilitation. That is the theme for the upcoming edition of Research Day, held in Swedish on February 1, 2024. “We have chosen broad and common diseases that can be of interest to many,” says Peter Gjertsson, chair of the program committee.
Current research in breast cancer, prostate cancer, stroke, and thyroid disease are some of the topics that will be highlighted in the next edition of Research Day, a collaborative event between Sahlgrenska University Hospital and Sahlgrenska Academy.
“The common thread this year is broad, common diseases. We aim to attract a wide audience and showcase the outstanding clinical research we collectively conduct in these areas,” says Peter Gjertsson, representing Sahlgrenska University Hospital in the program committee for Research Day.
The program will cover everything from screening for common diseases to the rehabilitation phase. One area where outstanding research is being conducted in Gothenburg is prostate cancer, which will be presented under the heading “Lessons from 30 years of screening for prostate cancer.”
“In that field, we are definitely at the forefront. The seminar will be led by Professor and Chief Physician Jonas Hugosson, who is responsible for a study that has had a significant impact,” says Peter Gjertsson.
In what way will rehabilitation be highlighted in the program?
“You will hear more about it in the seminar on stroke, where, among other things, a physiotherapist will present their research,” he says.
The last seminar of the day is dedicated to research in psychiatry, under the heading “Bipolar Syndromes – better care requires interdisciplinary research.”
“We want to showcase this research. Bipolar syndromes are not a widespread public ailment, but they are still commonly encountered in society. This year’s research day provides an excellent opportunity to learn more about the broad spectrum and expertise we collectively possess in clinical research,” says Peter Gjertsson.
