New Head of the Faculty Office: Annelie Tobin

18 September, 2023

MANAGEMENT ASSIGNMENT. With twenty years of experience, primarily within education and internationalization at Sahlgrenska Academy, Annelie Tobin has now assumed the role of Head of the Faculty Office.

“I look forward to continuing to develop the work of the Faculty Office in the same spirit as my predecessor Margareta Rorsman,” she says. “I have great confidence in the Faculty Office’s staff, who have a very high degree of expertise in the areas we work with.”

The Sahlgrenska Academy’s Faculty Office provides administrative support for the faculty’s board, management, joint councils, and committees, and administers and coordinates certain aspects of the faculty’s activities, including internationalization, third-cycle education, and the medical program. The Faculty Office brings together specialists within economics, research, human resources, communication, and education.

A passionate enabler

“We have noticed how employees at the Sahlgrenska Academy are happy to contact the Faculty Office for help with various matters, which shows that we fulfill our role and are highly appreciated,” adds Annelie, whose aim is that the Faculty Office should continue to provide excellent, efficient service at a high professional level.

As Head of the Faculty Office, Anneli wants to be an enabler and a spokesperson for the Dean’s and the Faculty Board’s views and decisions on various issues, both within the faculty and in contact with external parties:

“The Head of the Faculty Office acts as a hub for information and questions, which need to be handled correctly and effectively. This role includes involving staff with the skills required for the specific task. We have highly knowledgeable employees within the Faculty Office, and I have great confidence in their expertise.”

External uncertainties

Annelie assumes her role during a time of change, with a new Dean joining the faculty at the end of the year and a new Vice-Chancellor having recently been appointed at the University. She explains how external developments and the general economic situation also affect the Sahlgrenska Academy’s Faculty Office.

“It’s hard to know how the economy will evolve, but we have received clear signals that the faculty’s rental costs will rise due to inflation. Just like the rest of the Sahlgrenska Academy, we at the Faculty Office need to make adjustments in line with the current situation and help turn the ship around.”

Work is already underway to make more efficient use of premises through densification. Another part of the Faculty Office’s adaptation work involves identifying more effective collaboration methods, for example through increased digitalization where this can improve the quality of work.

Many years of experience

Annelie joined the Sahlgrenska Academy’s Faculty Office in 2002 as an international coordinator, and subsequently led the Sahlgrenska Academy International Office (SAIO) for several years. In recent years, she has headed up the Faculty Office’s Unit of Education, which includes administration for both first- and third-cycle education, and for internationalization.

Annelie takes over from Margareta Rorsman, who has now retired.

“The role of Head of the Faculty Office requires integrity, which is something that Margareta certainly had. I want to keep the flag flying high, and continue our journey along this path.”
