SECURITY. Due to an increased risk of cyber attacks, all employees are now advised to activate multi-factor authentication as soon as possible to increase the security of the account and also of the entire university’s IT environment.
More information on how to activate your account for MFA is found here in the Staff Portal under Service & support – IT services – User account: Multi-factor authentication, MFA
Why are we introducing MFA now?
The university is exposed to phishing attempts on a daily basis where fraudsters try to get hold of login details to our accounts. Once an account has been hacked, the breach can cause a lot of damage. Viruses can spread in the employee’s computer and on to his/hers/their contacts, and malicious programs can encrypt information on our storage areas.
By introducing multi-factor authentication, the university can prevent breaches from happening to a greater degree and minimize the damage caused by them.
The war in Ukraine, Sweden’s NATO application and the recent Koran burnings have led to a generally increased risk for cyber attacks in the Western world and in Sweden. However, the University of Gothenburg is not particularly singled out.
