ACADEMIC ELECTION. In May and early June, the recruitment committee will prepare and send out for comment a proposed requirement profile for the Vice-Chancellor for the next appointment period. The University will also hire a recruitment agency, but it will also be possible to apply for the position of Vice-Chancellor or nominate candidates. The University Board made this decision on Thursday, April 28.th.
Last month, the University Board approved the use of a complete hiring process to appoint the Vice-Chancellor in open competition for the coming appointment period. A recruitment committee was also appointed, led by Board Chair Peter Larsson.
The committee’s assignment includes submitting a proposal to the Board for the continued preparatory process. Additional reading: Group appointed for recruitment of vice-chancellor
“We’ve met three times and the work is progressing well. Response and collaboration has been very good. The focus is now on the upcoming requirement profile, which the Board will adopt at our meeting in June,” says Peter Larsson.
On 28 April the Board held a meeting and made decisions regarding a requirement profile, recruitment agency, nominations, consultative assembly, communications and a preliminary schedule.
Requirement profile
In May and early June, the recruitment committee will complete a proposed requirement profile for the Vice-Chancellor for the coming appointment period. The groups within the recruitment committee – general representatives, teachers, students and staff organisations – are to seek wide-ranging input on the profile as they deem appropriate. The Board will adopt a final version of the requirement profile on 15 June.
Recruitment agency, advertising and nominations
A recruitment agency able to identify suitable external candidates will be engaged for the recruitment process. The open position will also be advertised, and third parties may nominate candidates. Nominations should include why the candidate is suitable and confirm that the nominee has given their consent to be nominated.
Consultative assembly
Teachers, other staff and students can provide input through a consultative assembly in accordance with the rules of the University of Gothenburg. In brief, the consultative assembly has an advisory function and is tasked with providing an opinion on the University Board’s proposed candidates for Vice-Chancellor. The assembly is composed of 30 teacher representatives, 20 representatives of other staff categories, and 20 student representatives.
See below for the distribution between the faculties and student unions regarding representatives in the consultative assembly. Representatives and substitutes will be appointed by 20 September 2022.
Communications
The process is to be clearcut and provide adequate time for all steps. A website will be published next week that provides the latest information.
