EDUCATION. The faculty is now launching a creative meeting place where teachers and other staff working with educational questions can provide support and inspiration to each other in our efforts to improve the quality of our digital teaching. The meeting place is created in the form of a Teams channel called ‘Alltid REDO’ [Always READY].
All staff interested in digital education are welcome to join the Teams channel. You can choose when you want to receive Teams notifications for posts on the channel and when you want to contribute to the channel.
Do you want to join the Teams channel Always REDO? You can find it via this link. When you click on “connect”, the membership request is approved by the owners. Communication language in the channel is mainly Swedish, but entries in English work just fine, off course.
Long-term improvement of quality
The Teams ‘Alltid REDO’ channel was started by the REDO group, which has been working since the start of the pandemic to find quick solutions during the sudden shift to online education. The acronym REDO stands for Referensgrupp för omläggning till digital undervisning och examinationer [Reference Group for Transitioning to Digital Teaching and Examinations], but it is more of a network than a working group. THE REDO Group continues to have the support of the Education Council in its work to strengthen the quality of digital education and hybrid education at Sahlgrenska Academy, even when teaching shifts back to being more campus-based again.
“We are now moving from fighting fires to working more long-term on improving the quality of the digital elements in our programs. We are focusing on building on the best of the best from the experiences with digital teaching that we have gained so far,” says Axl Wolf, who leads the work of the REDO Group.
“We also see that our understanding of how digital solutions work in practice is developing rapidly. We hope that we will be able to use this knowledge in a collaborative space in which it is easy to share both successes and setbacks,” says Alva Stråge, education officer at the Institute of Medicine and responsible for moderating the Teams channel.
No ready-made manual
The Teams channel will be a forum for wide-ranging discussions on how to develop digital education. The members of the REDO team will also be involved in the various threads in the Teams channel.
“We hope that the channel will provide opportunities for discussion and skills development, such as how to offer a solution that combines high quality physical and digital teaching. We believe that the hybrid approach will become more common in all forms of teaching, but right now everyone is fumbling in the dark because there is no ready-made manual for how this teaching should be designed,” says Axel Wolf.
Collaboration and inspiration
The REDO Group and the new Teams channel will complement the PIL unit, which has already created great materials for teachers who want to sharpen their digital skills. However, some materials may need to be adapted to conform to Sahlgrenska Academy’s needs. The REDO Group plans to offer basic instruction videos through the Teams channel that provide the basic knowledge that teachers at Sahlgrenska Academy will need to get started with digital teaching.
But the new Teams channel, Alltid REDO, will also be a platform where it will be quick and easy to support and inspire each other, based on our own experience of digital teaching and educational approach.
“We hope that the channel can develop into a meeting place for staff interested in education issues, while also being a general discussion forum for the development of our teaching skills, with a particular focus on digital solutions. The channel will be a way of getting in touch with the REDO group but also with others at the faculty who may be dealing with the same issues,” says Axel Wolf.
