“A huge opportunity to reach students at the Faculty of Science and Chalmers”

23 April, 2021

TECHNOLOGY AND HEALTH. May 11 is the date for the master thesis project fair, which brings together supervisors and students from Sahlgrenska Academy, the Faculty of Science and Chalmers University of Technology. The purpose of the fair is to create new interdisciplinary projects. Supervisors can propose projects for the fair until May 5 (extended deadline).

“This is a huge opportunity to reach students in the natural sciences and technology who think it would be exciting to apply their knowledge within medicine and healthcare. Of course, we want to bring in as many good supervisors as possible, from the organizers (the Faculty of Science, Chalmers and Sahlgrenska Academy) but also from Sahlgrenska University Hospital,” says Pro-Dean Henrik Hagberg.

The fair takes place entirely digitally via Zoom on May 11 from 15:00 to 17:00.
• Supervisors can propose projects until May 5, using this link: https://forms.office.com/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=Me2YB7D1NUmGPHPuJQWAbikEl6kTcMNGhPAvGcF2TlVUOERROTU1R1dCMUtDTDMyNUc3TzIxVE9NQS4u
• Also send a brief summary of the project (half of an A4) to exjobbsmassa@sahlgrenska.gu.se.

Zoom-based

All potential supervisors will have the opportunity to present their projects to a joint group of students from Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg in a webinar. Students will then be able to ask questions and discuss the projects in smaller groups in break-out rooms along with the researchers.

“We hope that this will be a first step for students finding an interesting master project and, for Sahlgrenska Academy purposes, an undergraduate thesis project. Eventually we hope these master thesis project fairs will continue increasing interest in questions at the intersection of medicine, healthcare, technology and the natural sciences,” says Hagberg.

Seven projects

With the fair now being presented for the second time, it is Sahlgrenska Academy’s turn to host the event. About 80 students and 15 supervisors, most of them from Chalmers, participated in the first fair last autumn.

“By the end of the fair, supervisors and students agreed on seven degree projects. That was a rather good result for the initial fair, but this time we hope for an even better outcome and, above all, more projects from the University of Gothenburg and Sahlgrenska University Hospital,” says Hagberg.
