TEACHING. The University of Gothenburg Student Union, which includes the Sahlgrenska Academy Student Union, has published a current report on how students experience their study environment since the university introduced distance learning. The experience of distance education varies, according to the report.
The report is based on survey responses from members’ corps, student environment work representatives, student head environmental representatives and student representatives at central level.
According to the report, some students feel that the transition to Zoom has improved pedagogy, and led to increased focus and efficiency. Many also appreciate recorded lectures where you can pause and go back. One disadvantage of lectures that are not live-streamed is that it becomes more difficult to keep in touch with the teacher and to get help if, for example, the platforms are difficult.
The ability to ask questions and to include students through discussion is described to have deteriorated. In the report, which deals with distance education at the whole of University of Gothenburg, students have described that it is possible that lectures that according to the schedule should last for several hours to be considerably shorter, without giving an explanation. Several students also describe that teaching has been completely canceled, and that teachers then only referred to the course literature and gave reading references.
