Current construction information for Medicinareberget

4 November, 2019

CONSTRUCTION INFORMATION. Here you find information for weeks 45 to 47, about both the new premises for the Faculty of Science, and the reconstruction work at Medicinareberget. Week 46 (November 11-15) will be an eventful week at Medicinareberget. On Thursday, November 14, the spare time at 15.00 may be used.
If you have any questions about the construction activities, feel free to email us medicinareberget@gu.se.

WEEK 45, November 4 – 8.

Medicinareberget
As previously informed, rebuilding in the Medicinarelängan (Medicinaregatan 7) continues plan 1000 and in Lundberglabb. The construction works are preparing for the relocation of the Center for Cellular Imaging, CCI, which is part of the Core Facilities, and for research teams at the Institute of Biomedicine. Work will continue until Christmas. In the meantime, some premises will be closed.

New premises for the Faculty of Science
A contractor for forging work is now on site to carry out some work at the EBM media central.
The work will be assisted by a crane but the activity is inside the fence and does not affect the surrounding area.
The blasting work on level three proceeds according to plan. In the coming weeks, the trucks will be both entering and exiting through the north gate close to EBM.
In week 45 blasting will be done as usual on Tuesday and Thursday at 12.30 with 15.00 as reserve times both days.

In weeks 45 to 47, blasting is made on level three.

WEEK 46, November 11 – 15.

Medicinareberget
Week 46 will be an intense week on Medicinareberget. Firstly, pavilions will be delivered and put up on the parking lot behind Lundberglabb. This will cause major disturbances and affect the availability in several areas. In certain places car lanes and walkways along Medicinaregatan will be closed. This map gives you more detailed information: https://gubox.box.com/s/ldy8nt2r26we94948pax00t7hrid7q8l.
In addition, disassembly of some old ventilations units on floor 5 in Lundberg laboratory will be made. The units will be lifted off the roof and this requires a mobile crane. During demolition and assembly of new units, a work that takes at least three work days, the walkway north of Lundberg laboratory will be closed.  You are advised to use the route inside the house during the days the walkway is closed. This map gives you more detailed information: https://gubox.box.com/s/e2r64jnxhfxplvcl38mvc9802sxcf6ad.
This activity will be repeated also in week 48 as well as in weeks 2 and 4 next year. We will return with information for these occasions.

New premises for the Faculty of Science
In parallel with the blasting on level three, planning for the fourth and last level is in full swing.
Blasting on the fourth level needs to take into consideration the design of the new building’s base and its different levels and adapt drilling and blasting accordingly.
Both the drill rig and the excavator is controlled by a 3D model and a close dialogue between designers and operators is a key success factor in this activity.
This week’s blasts will be done as usual on Tuesday and Thursday at 12.30 with 15.00 as reserve times both days.
On Thursday, November 14, the reserve time at 15.00 might be used for dividing some large rocks, to enable them to be loaded on to trucks.

WEEK 47, November 18 – 22.

Medicinareberget
The reconstruction work in Medicinarelängan and in Lundberglabb proceeds according to plan. No new information at this point.

New premises for the Faculty of Science
The contractor for the forging work will be ready with its work at the EBM media central.
Apart from that, week 47 will be a lot like previous weeks with drilling, blasting and some reinforcement work on the rock wall.
Trucks will continue to enter and exit through the gate close to EBM.
In week 47 blasting will be done as usual on Tuesday and Thursday at 12.30 with 15.00 as reserve times both days.

WARNING SIGNALS AT BLASTING. Before and during blasting the area will be blocked off by guards and you will hear a warning signal. Information signs with contact information will also be put up in concerned areas.
