INTER-ACTION. Biotechnology, religion, urology, IT and aging. Those were some of the research fields that were represented when some twenty newly arrived researchers with refugee background met on Pedagogen on Thursday, where they received information about the new program for PhD students or those who recently finished their PhD into the academy in Sweden.
The project is a collaboration between the Swedish Employment Service, University of West Sweden, University of Borås, Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg. It is the first of its kind in Sweden. The aim is to provide newly arrived researchers with knowledge of the Swedish university system, as well as individual guidance, mentorship and placement at an institution that matches the applicant’s research background. The goal is to capture the skills the new arrivals possess and, that they, after the program, can apply for positions as doctoral students or faculty staff at a university or college.
One of those who participated in the meeting was Ihsane Modhaffar. She holds a PhD in mechanical engineering and has, among other things, worked with composites and polymers.
“I live in Stockholm, but I am ready to move to Gothenburg for this program. I want to know what criteria I need to meet in order to work with my research area in Sweden”, she said.
Mary Nour Atiah, from Syria, has already applied.
“I have worked with biopharmaceutical research and hope that the program will help me get a job.
