LEADERSHIP APPOINTMENT. A total of nine people have been nominated and have accepted the nomination to be Eva Wiberg’s immediate deputy. All are internal, except one. Three of the nine nominees are from the Sahlgrenska Academy: Agneta Holmäng, Anna Karlsson and Jon Karlsson.
Agneta Holmäng and Mette Sandoff, who is Associate Professor of Business Administration and currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor with responsibility for education issues, received the most nominations.
Agneta Holmäng, who is currently Head of Department of the Department of Neuroscience and Physiology, received five nominations. Agneta was also one of the final candidates for the position of Dean of the Sahlgrenska Academy. Now she is nominated for the Pro Vice-Chancellor post by, among others, Professor Jan Borén, who stated in his nomination and note of support that she “is very experienced and highly competent as a Head of Department, […] and has a good network of contacts both within the Sahlgrenska Academy and the Faculty of Science.” In addition, “she has the breadth (research-teaching-education-fundraising-administration) and network of contacts required for the task”. Professor Claes Annestedt at the Department of Food and Nutrition, and Sport Science also emphasizes her strong leadership skills: “She is efficient, has good working capacity and extensive experience in Education and Public Outreach.”
Anna Karlsson, who is the Assistant Dean for Postgraduate Studies at the Sahlgrenska Academy, received two nominations. Anna is “immensely well-respected as Assistant Dean,” writes Eric Hanse, Christina Jern and Sven Enerbäck. The longest letter of support comes from Christian Munthe, Professor of Practical Philosophy, which emphasizes the importance of that the Pro Vice-Chancellor represents an complementary academic tradition. “As for me, I regard Anna as a thoughtful person with good judgment who thinks in a long-term perspective, with intention and with a comprehensive approach to academic leadership and the role of the university in society,” remarks Christian Munthe.
Further, an academic who is also a medical practitioner has been nominated: Jon Karlsson, Professor of Orthopedics. In particular, Jon’s extensive experience with high-quality collaborative research is stressed: “Jon Karlsson is a very good leader with the greatest integrity, an exceptionally large capacity for work, and the unique capacity to motivate and instill enthusiasm in others.”
The list of the nine nominated for the office of Pro Vice-Chancellor include: Deliang Chen, Mattias Goksör, Agneta Holmäng, Stefan Hulth, Anna Karlsson, Jon Karlsson, Mette Sandoff, Åke Strid (Dean at Örebro University), and Per Åberg.
The preparatory team, chaired by the Chair of the University Board, Cecilia Schelin Seidegård, is responsible for the recruitment of the new Pro Vice-Chancellor. In late March, a number of individuals were selected for an interview. In addition the nominees, three individuals have applied to become Pro Vice-Chancellor, including Said Irandoust, who previously was the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Borås.
The person (or persons) who goes on to the consultative assembly will be announced shortly after the University Board’s meeting on April 25. The decision will be made at the University Board meeting to be held on June 7th.
