Soon the Sahlgrenska Visiting Professorship will be open for applications

31 January, 2017

INTERNATIONALIZATION. The Sahlgrenska Academy’s Guest Professorship Program – Sahlgrenska Visiting Professorship – is now about to start. The program can provide co-financing when recruiting guest professors for at a tenure of at least one year and at most three years. The aim of the Guest Professor Program is to stimulate a high quality of international exchange.

Sahlgrenska Visiting Professorship is a five-year strategic investment involving the advertising and appointment of a number of part-time, time-limited positions. The positions will be posted in 2017 and 2019. This year, the application period will start on Monday, January 30, and end on Wednesday March 15.

The program has a high level of ambition requiring an active recruitment process. Recruitment is based on a nomination procedure where a representative for the host research group applies for funds for a guest professor. It is important that the person proposed as a guest professor has the strong support of a research group at the Sahlgrenska Academy.

The application must include:

  • The CV of the person nominated including what position (and scope) the nominee holds.
  • A background to the nomination, e.g. a description of the research environment in which the nominee will be active, and the value that the proposed guest professor would bring to the Sahlgrenska Academy.
  • A description of the nominee’s previous and current activities, not only within the field of research but also within the field of education.
  • A description of how research cooperation will be carried out (a research plan) consisting of no more than 3 pages.
  • Expected results (e.g. applications for funding, clinical cooperation, exchanges with other research groups at the Sahlgrenska Academy.
  • A budget of estimated costs, as well as a clear description of any partial funding from an institution.
  • A certificate that the nominee has been approached and has accepted to become a guest professor at the Sahlgrenska Academy.
  • A declaration of intent from the institution including verification that the Head of Department supports the application.

The application must be put together as a (1) pdf file and e-mailed to human resources officer Åsa Carlström (asa.carlstrom@gu.se)

The objectives of the program

The aim of the Guest Researcher Program is

  • to strengthen and develop internationalization in the Academy’s research environments
  • to stimulate the exchange of knowledge and experience between research groups
  • to inspire continued exchange between research groups with a high level of international reputation
  • to stimulate the quality of research
  • to contribute to increasing the number of publications in internationally highly ranked journals
  • to stimulate cooperation within research that can generate large grants

The scope and duration of the program

The program is directed to researchers at such a level that the job title will be that of guest professor. The Sahlgrenska Visiting Professorship Program will run for a period of 5 years during which a number of positions will be advertised. Positions will be published on two occasions in 2017 and
2019. The position can vary not only with regard to scope but also time span, but should be 1-3 years in duration and 10-30 percent of a full-time position, allowing for a distribution between institutions. The institution may also partially fund a guest professor to increase the scope and/or length of stay.
Thus, the number of positions is determined by the scope of the positions. The appointment as guest professor may not be extended within the framework for the program. Any deviations from this will be financed by the host
institution.
