EDUCATION. On June 13 to 17, Health Metrics at Sahlgrenska Academy organizes an international Summer School in Health Economics and Statistics. In total four different courses will be offered during the week, with teachers from Health Metrics and from leading institutions in England, France and Norway.
During an intense week, PhD students, researchers, and practitioners from the public and private sectors are welcome to participate in courses on methods and applications of health economic evaluations and health science statistics.
This summer two different courses in health economics will be offered, with a focus on cost-effectiveness and cost-benefit analyses. The two statistical courses focus on causal inference when you do not have access to data from randomized trials, an area where there have been major methodological advances in recent years. The different courses have a somewhat different level, as one turns to a wider audience and the others have a narrower focus on the latest research advances.
“Notifications have started to come in for the summer courses but we have decided to put a limit of 25 participants per course”, says Mikael Svensson, Head of Health Metrics, the unit that organizes the summer school.
Mikael Svensson continues:
– It is important to keep the group small, mainly because it provides a better opportunity for PhD students and young researchers to discuss the methods and issues related to their own research.
In addition to five intensive course days, the summer school also includes social aspects, such as joint dinners and other networking opportunities where participants have the opportunity to meet and discuss their common work and projects.
