At the end of 2014 came a new report from the Nordic Research Board, called “Joint Nordic Registers and Biobanks – A goldmine for health and welfare research”. The report notes that register-based research in health and welfare has a great potential to produce knowledge that can be used to improve the capacity of the Nordic welfare states, especially if the Nordic registers and biobanks can be coordinated in a satisfactory manner.
The report focuses on how to solve the problems that exist, which could impede the access to Nordic data, and suggests how this work can be improved to strengthen Nordic register-based research. This should give the Nordic register-based research a good opportunity to attract international interest and occupy a leading position in the field, according to the report.
