It is attractive to do research in and about low income countries. The number of applications for U-research grants increased by more than 40 percent this year compared with 2012, the Swedish Research Council’s webzine Curie reports.
Starting this year, the Swedish Research Council is responsible entirely for U-research, but Sida remains the largest Swedish financier of research partnerships with low-income countries.
The interest among Swedish researchers for research relevant to low-income countries is increasing. When the application period for the Research Council’s U-research grant expired at the end of April around 380 applications had been received – an increase of more than 40 percent compared with 2012.
– It is primarily in the areas of global health and general social sciences that more researchers have sought funding this year says Anna Vallstedt Haeger, Research Officer at the Swedish Research Council.
