FACULTY ELECTIONS. The Nomination Committee now presents the members and alternates proposed for the next Faculty Board. One of the members is proposed to be a representative for technical and administrative staff. The elections take place electronically, May 17-30, 2024.
In total, 19 candidates were nominated and discussed during the Nomination Committee process. Mattias Lorentzon, Professor of Geriatrics, is the Chairperson of the Nomination Committee:
“The Nomination Committee has reviewed and assessed the nominations received and has aimed to enable a Faculty Board with broad expertise from different disciplines, with different backgrounds, where nominated members are strong representatives of both preclinical and clinical research as well as teaching. We think that the proposal coincides well with the objective where there is a good balance of people with different skills and backgrounds in the proposed board, says Mattias Lorentzon, Chairperson of the Nomination Committee.
The majority of the proposed members are scientifically competent, which is in line with the current rules on the composition of the Faculty Board. One of the proposed members, Maria Smedh, represents the Technical/Administrative (TA) Staff category.
“We believe that a well-qualified TA Representative can bring valuable expertise to the Faculty Board and better represent the Faculty’s TA staff, comments Mattias Lorentzon.

Composition of the Nomination Committee
The nomination committee consisted of Mattias Lorentzon (Institute of Medicine, Chairperson), Ulla Wide (Institute of Dentistry, Vice Chairperson), Niklas Darin (Institute of Clinical Sciences), Chatarina Löfqvist (Institute of Health and Care Sciences), Christine Wennerås (Institute of Biomedicine), Lars Westberg (Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology), and Ingeborg Herbertsson (Sahlgrenska Academy Office, Representative of Administrative and Technical staff).
The Nomination Committee has been unanimous in its assessment, with one exception. One of the members of the Nomination Committee, Lars Westberg, feels that he has not been able to get a thorough enough picture of the proposed candidates, and describes the work process as forced. He therefore chooses to enter a reservation against the proposal as a whole.
