RESEARCH CAREER. An international postdoc is a fantastic opportunity to conduct research with new people in a new country and increases the possibility of attracting external funding. This is evident from the applicants who are granted, for example, establishment grants from the Swedish Research Council, where almost all have completed an international postdoc.
Several funders regularly announce grants to undertake a period as a postdoctoral fellow outside Sweden. However, after the pandemic, the number of applications for funding for international postdocs has decreased. The Research Support Department at Sahlgrenska Academy aims to facilitate for doctoral students planning to undertake an international postdoc after their dissertation. Therefore, there is now a guide on international postdocs as well as a list of grants to apply for postdocs.
The guide has been developed with the support of interviews with researchers who have completed an international postdoc.
