AWARDS. When the award “For Zealous and Devoted Service to the Realm” was presented at a ceremony last week, 19 of the university employees honored belonged to the Sahlgrenska Academy. One of them was Lena Krok, a university lecturer at the Institute of Odontology.
Those employees recognized with the award have served 30 years in state employment or 25 years upon retirement. These individuals do not necessarily have to have worked at the university for that entire duration; any state employment throughout their career is considered. All recipients have the opportunity to choose a gift, including the traditional gold watch or the medal “For Zealous and Devoted Service to the Realm.”
Beautiful event
Out of 84 invited individuals, 57 chose to attend the ceremony at Vasaparken and receive their gift from the hands of the rector. One of them was Lena Krok, a university lecturer at the Institute of Odontology:
“It’s always nice to be recognized, and it was a beautiful event. But what warms me the most is to receive appreciation from both former and current students and patients,” says Lena Krok.
For 30 years, she has worked at the Institute of Odontology, handling tasks such as teaching on the dental hygienist program, administrative duties, as well as patient treatment and clinical research.
“I’ve had an exciting professional life, with many rewarding and varied elements. It has almost always been enjoyable to go to work, whether it’s teaching, dealing with patients, or clinical research,” says Lena Krok.
Changing student group
The most enjoyable aspect of her professional life at the institute is the variety of tasks and interactions with people in different situations, she explains.
“The most challenging part is encountering today’s student group as it has changed over the years. Another challenge is the increasing administrative component in my work,” she adds.
The ceremony was accompanied by music from students at the University of Fine Arts and Music. Rector Malin Broberg welcomed everyone and then presented the award, with Lena Krok choosing a practical wristwatch. The ceremony concluded with a festive buffet.
