RESEARCH COLLABORATION. 14 researchers from four countries have together established an alliance for research collaboration in emergency care. The alliance was formed during a meeting at the end of last year at Hälosvetarbacken.
The Alliance has been named the International Collaborative Alliance for Research in Emergency Care. From the Institute of Health and Care Sciences, Professors Eric Carlström and Mona Ringdal are participating, as well as Jenny Milton, PhD lecturer. Other participating researchers are from Griffith University in Australia, Utrecht University in the Netherlands and Odense University Hospital in Denmark.
The collaboration has already led to newly established international contacts in a good and exciting mix of driven junior and senior researchers. Joint research projects have also already been launched. The knowledge transfer and projects within the network will include lessons learned from patient participation in emergency care research, challenges and opportunities around the environment for frail elderly and mental health patients in emergency departments, and evidence for healthcare practices that enable retention of emergency care staff.
Learning from each other
The enthusiasm among the researchers for the new collaboration was palpable, says Jenny Milton:
“Here we bring together experiences from around the world. It highlights current research but also common future challenges in the field. We will be able to learn a lot from each other, which is very exciting!”
The meeting took place in early November at the Institute of Health and Care Sciences in Gothenburg. The researchers then discussed common interests and the potential of forming the joint alliance in emergency care research.
Growing network
“Sometimes it can be difficult to keep up to date with what is happening in different research fields, especially internationally. We believe that this collaboration will help us researchers to be informed and inspired about different research activities in emergency care around the world. Our ambition is for the network to grow and generate research grants,” says Jenny Milton and she adds:
“The knowledge that the research projects will be able to contribute to the emergency care research community will be valuable!”
