Speaker: Geert van Loo, Professor at the University of Gent, Belgium.
Geert van Loo is a professort at VIB Ghent Inflammation Unit. Geert van Loo’s research group is dedicated to investigating in vivo mechanisms by which inflammation drives (autoimmune) pathology. For these studies the group uses Cre/LoxP-mediated gene targeting technology allowing tissue-specific gene deletion in mice, in combination with mouse models of human inflammatory diseases. Central in the research is the study of the molecular mechanisms involving NF-κB, apoptosis and ER stress in pathologies such as inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes and multiple sclerosis.
