The climate goal of the University of Gothenburg to reduce total emissions by 25 percent by 2023 will not be achieved, according to the assessment by the Section for Sustainability at GU Property and Sustainable Development. Compared to 2019, total emissions have decreased by 7.4 percent. The total carbon dioxide emissions from the university’s activities are projected to be almost 44 kilotons in 2023. Despite an updated travel policy from December 2022, air travel is now at the same level as in 2019. At the same time, funds in the Climate Fund, the majority of which are allocations compensating for business trips by air, are increasing. The money is intended for efforts and measures that reduce the university’s emissions. Read more about the climate framework on the Staff Portal.
