This year’s recipients of the Sahlgrenska Academy International Starting Grant are Caroline Miranda Larsen (Neuroscience and Physiology) and Aron Onerup (Clinical Sciences), a grant that awards them SEK one million each from the faculty. Caroline Miranda Larsen has completed a postdoc at the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolism. Her project at Sahlgrenska Academy explores a new role for delta cells in the Islets of Langerhans in the pancreas, as well as the hormone somatostatin in diabetes. Aron Onerup has completed a postdoc at St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee, USA. He will investigate the potential of lifestyle interventions to mitigate late cardiovascular effects in individuals who have survived childhood cancer.
