MEDICAL PROGRAM. Digital training is now available to support you in your role as a clinical supervisor. The aim is to provide the right conditions for you to act as a good source of support in students’ learning and development.
“It is widely known that good supervision is important for medical students to succeed with their placements,” says Matilda Liljedahl, a resident physician who works with pedagogy at Sahlgrenska Academy. “That’s why we’re making a concerted effort to ensure that everyone who supervises medical students receives training.”
The training highlights key factors for a successful placement, and includes practical advice for ensuring that students are engaged in their clinical work and how to use feedback as a tool to support students’ development and progress. You will also get an overview of Sahlgrenska Academy’s new six-year medical program.
“The new medical program can represent a major improvement in education, especially if all supervisors are trained and the workplaces are organized so that the right conditions are in place for both students and supervisors,” adds Erik Myrberg, a specialist physician in rheumatology and course leader at the Residency Office.
The final part of the training includes drawing up a pedagogical action plan with suitable learning activities that you can use for the next placement.
Who needs to complete the training?
If you supervise medical students and have not previously carried out supervisor training, you will need to complete the training by April 30, 2024.
About the training
Supervisor training is available via Lärportalen, and can be carried out at any time. It consists of six modules, and takes about 60 minutes in total to complete. After completing all modules, you will receive a certificate.
The training has been produced in collaboration between the University of Gothenburg’s Sahlgrenska Academy and the Education Unit/Research, Development, Education, and Innovation at Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
