Maria Åberg is a new professor in general medicine

We congratulate Maria Åberg, now professor in general medicine! The research group conducts clinical trials and epidemiological projects based on her previous preclinical research issues. Recently, she has investigated a number of risk factors during her teens for the development of cardiovascular disease, mental illness and cancer later in life. She emphasizes that the trends among young people with impaired physical activity, increasing screen time, mental illness and obesity mean that a holistic approach is needed to reverse the development. Maria also studies connections between the working environment and mental illness as well as infectious diseases. She is head of department for community medicine and public health and examines medical students. She is also specialist physicians at Närhälsan Sisjön’s health center and chairman of the primary care regional quality register Qregp.
