On July 1, 2023, Sweden will have a new biobank act. According to the new law, samples taken in healthcare may be stored in a biobank if the patient/sample provider has consented to the healthcare and received information according to the requirements of the law. One change is that even samples for research that are taken outside of a healthcare provider’s operations are covered by the new law. All samples must be established in a biobank.
