Helena Carén is now a professor in histology with a focus on cell biology

Akademiliv congratulates Helena Carén on the professorship! Helena focuses on improving diagnostics and treatment of patients with central nervous system tumors. The research group develops and validates new diagnostic methods that use epigenetic information and has shown that these add valuable information. The analysis method has therefore been implemented in the diagnostics of brain tumors in children. To improve today’s treatment, the group establishes patient-derived cancer stem cell cultures that are used to understand why the tumors arise and how they can be best treated. Helena is active in the development of teaching and teaches above all in the medical program within several courses where she is also course section leader.
