Björn Redfors is now professor of cardiology

Akademiliv congratulates Björn Redfors on his professorship in cardiology! He primarily researches acute onset cardiac dysfunction in heart attacks and other acute cardiac conditions. The research group is translational and works with both experimental models and clinical studies. Among other things, a total of almost 300 patients with ST-elevation infarction treated at the cardiology clinic have been studied in detail regarding changes in cardiac function and biomarkers over time during the acute and subacute course of the disease. Björn Redfors is also involved in several large international research collaborations, and coordinates, among other things, the multi-national STICH-3 project, where coronary surgery is compared with percutaneous coronary intervention as a revascularization method for patients with coronary artery disease and contemporary heart failure.
