AWARDS. Assar Gabrielsson’s prize is awarded for 2023 to two excellent doctoral theses in cancer research within Region Västra Götaland. Now you can see the pictures from the award ceremony, which was held on Tuesday 23 May 2023.
This year’s award winners are Malin Lindén (basic scientific research) and Aron Onerup (clinical research). The prize winners receive an extra research grant of SEK 100,000 each. Malin Lindén has studied how certain proteins affect the onset of a type of sarcoma, and this knowledge may in the future lead to new treatments for these diseases. Aron Onerup has shown that physical activity before colon and rectal cancer surgery made patients recover better afterwards. Aron was present via Zoom.
The award ceremony was held on Tuesday, when Assar Gabrielsson was one of Volvo’s founders. In accordance with his wish, a fund was established for clinical research of cancer diseases. The fund has existed since 1962. It primarily supports research projects that are considered promising but have not yet reached the weight that provides grants from central funds.
