DEAN ELECTIONS. Sahlgrenska Academy’s Drafting Committee now invites all employees to nominate candidates for the roles of Dean and Pro Dean during the term of office from 2024 to 2029 inclusive.
On December 31, 2023, the current terms of office for Dean Agneta Holmäng and Pro Dean Henrik Hagberg at Sahlgrenska Academy will expire. The Faculty Board has tasked Sahlgrenska Academy’s Drafting Committee to initiate, in consultation with the Vice-Chancellor, the preparatory process for appointing a Dean and Pro Dean at the Academy for the period from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2029.
The Drafting Committee’s task is, in consultation with the Vice-Chancellor, to draw up proposals for the positions of Dean and Pro-Dean. After an advisory election, the Vice-Chancellor will appoint the Dean and Pro Dean.
Academy staff are welcome to propose candidates for the two positions. The nominations must be received by the Drafting Committee not later than April 15. As the basis of the selection process, the Drafting Committee has developed a requirements profile, which may be found at the end of this document.
Who is eligible to nominate?
Every employee at Sahlgrenska Academy is welcome to nominate a candidate. Nominations must include reasons for your choice and the person’s résumé (max 6 pages with a maximum of 10 selected publications). The résumé must reflect the candidate’s experience in terms of (academic) leadership, teaching, research, collaboration, and cooperation with the community (the “third mission” of Swedish universities).
Please email your nomination to valberedning@sahlgrenska.gu.se with the word NOMINATION in the subject line. Nominees must have been asked whether they wish to be nominated; must be eligible (see below); and must have agreed to the nomination. Nominees’ names will (after their consent has been obtained) be published in Akademiliv at the time of the election. The names of those nominating candidates will not be published.

In September, there will be a hearing at which the candidates present themselves and their vision for the Academy, and the Academy’s employees get the chance to post questions to the candidates.
Electronically, by means of the University’s Sunet Survey tool, the election will take place between October 9 and 18. The Committee reserves the option of holding a separate election of the Vice Dean during November.
The regulations governing the appointment of the Dean and Pro Dean are described in the Rules of Procedure at the University of Gothenburg (ref. GU 2022/1764, adopted on June 16, 2022), which may be found here.
