FACULTY ELECTIONS. In October 2023, advisory elections for Pro-Dean and Dean will be implemented at Sahlgrenska Academy. Next week, a requirements profile is to be issued and employees can also start nominating candidates.
Sahlgrenska Academy’s Nomination’s Committee (with a co-opted student representative) has been tasked by the Faculty Board, in consultation with the Vice-Chancellor, to initiate the selection process to appoint the Dean and Pro-Dean at the Academy.
The appointees’ term of office will run from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2029. The Committee’s task is to propose candidates for these roles in consultation with the Vice-Chancellor, who appoints the Dean and Vice Dean after an advisory election. The Committee aims for an open, transparent process in its work.
One-month nomination period
The election, to take place in October 2023, will be preceded by extensive preparatory work. Academy staff will be able to nominate candidates for the two roles in the period from March 15 to April 15.
The consultative committee for appointments and elections has compiled a list of requirements to base the selection process on. The list will be published on March 15, when the nomination window opens, along with detailed instructions on who can be nominated and on the procedure concerned.
Hearing in September
The candidates will be evaluated during the spring and summer, initially in light of their résumés and thereafter through interviews and reference checks. At the end of August, in consultation with the Vice-Chancellor, the Nomination’s Committee will decide which candidates to shortlist.
In September, a hearing will be held at which the shortlisted candidates will present themselves and their vision of Sahlgrenska Academy, and the Academy’s employees get the chance to pose questions to the candidates.
A decision on whether to put forward one or more candidates for the post as Dean will be taken during the appointment process. The same applies to the decision on whether to hold the election as Vice Dean in conjunction with that as Dean, or subsequently in a separate election.
