STUDENT. The students who have now finished their studies take the step into healthcare, and begin their lifelong learning. Their graduation was celebrated with speeches, music and diplomas.
In January, four courses in different programs graduated, which means that a number of new physiotherapists, doctors, nurses and dentists are ready to start their life’s journey in their healthcare profession.
Friends for life
One of the 121 newly graduated doctors is Olof Wilhelmsson:
“It’s great fun, but it also feels a little surreal. It has been years filled with learning, sometimes challenging, and the best thing I take with me are all the friends I have shared this experience with”, he says.
Together with a classmate, he will now celebrate his graduation with a long trip in Australia, and then aims to start working as an assistant doctor at a health center or a hospital.
Anywhere
Lars Börjesson, chairman of the medical program committee, stated that the medical students have now made the step from student to colleague. But the learning curve continues for doctors throughout their lives, and within the next few years the new doctors will have to choose their specialist area.
“Many of you already know what you want to be, some only know what you don’t want to be”, Lars said during his speech.
He sent a quote from the internationally very successful conductor Sixten Ehrling:
“After a very successful concert in a large opera house, he was left sitting in his private car outside, until the driver turned around and asked ‘Where does Mr. Ehrling want to go?’. The answer was ‘Drive me anywhere, I’m needed everywhere.’ You can have the same feeling now: you are needed pretty much everywhere”, said Lars Börjesson, facing the newly appointed doctors.
